Armenia’s Chief of General Staff: “We often retaliate against Azerbaijan”

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian army, Lieutenant General Artak Davtyan has stated that “we are often forced to conduct retaliatory measures against Azerbaijani armed forces to stop the attacks they initiate”.

“We continue to insist on installation of incident investigation mechanisms along the entire border so that the international community and organizations see clearly who initiates attacks and provokes the other party. We are often forced to conduct retaliatory measures against Azerbaijani armed forces to thwart the attacks they initiate. Our society is informed about these incidents when necessary,” Artak Davtyan said in the interview to Armenpress.

He has stressed that “Azerbaijan did not strengthen or move forward its position on the Nakhichevan line”.

“We do not deny that the Azerbaijani forces are acting in a different way at the Nakhichevan border, and we do not deny that they have increased the amount of arms and military equipment in the area and they are firing more. However, we are not sitting with our hands in our laps. We conduct counter-actions. In general, we have a response to any action by the adversary and we will not allow Azerbaijan to seize the initiative,” said Davtyan.
