Aliyev: Azerbaijan will be linked to Nakhchivan and Turkey, and Russia will be able to open railway towards Armenia

In an interview with Interfax, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said transport projects play a major role in long-term development and ensuring of stability in the region and reduction of the risk of a war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“All countries of the region will benefit from this. Azerbaijan [through the implementation of these projects-ed.)] will be connected to Nakhchivan and Turkey. At the same time, Russia will be able to open a railway towards Armenia,” Aliyev added.
According to him, the projects will allow Russia and Iran to have railway communication with Nakhchivan. He also stressed that exploitation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway provided the opportunity to carry out cargo transportation between Russia and Turkey through that route.

Aliyev has launched construction of the Horadiz-Agbend railway in Fizuli. The length of the new railway line is 100 kilometers. The road will contribute to the establishment of direct railway communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
